Description

Rightfully known as the "King of Tempranillo," Alejandro Fernandez is the most famous resident in Ribera and Pesquera is one of the most prestigious wineries in Spain.

It is often said that childhood shapes an individual's future, and every year from being a boy, Alejandro -- following family tradition -- learned from his father to make wine using grapes from small vineyards. He is the perfect example of the self-made man. Over his career he has been a salesman, soldier and master carpenter. In 1972, he was the owner of a modest 16th century stone-built bodega, from where almost all the winemaking process was carried out. Without any formal enological education or training, he started his bodega as a second career and, against all odds, won international acclaim.

Fining and filtration (each a process of removing solids from the wine to maintain clarity) are never used, as Alejandro believes they can strip the wine of some of its flavor and character. So, without using this step of winemaking, these wines have been crafted in a complete vegan fashion.

We will be trying five of the wineries favorites:

Chef Angie and Chef Matt will be preparing unique vegan dishes tailored to the flavors and aromas of each of these wines.

Cashew and herb chevre crostini with pear jam Paired with El Vinculo Alejairen

2nd course
Roasted artichoke soup with fried Leeks and a vegan crème fraiche Paired with Fillaboa Albarino

3rd course
Kale Caesar with parsnips and roasted garbanzo croutons Paired with Grupo Pesquera Tinto Pesquera Crianza

4th course
Spicy walnut and mushroom Bolognese Paired with Grupo Pesquera Dehesa La Granja

5th course
A decadent dark chocolate ganache and raspberry cupcake Paired with Grupo Pesquera Condado de Haza

Wine will be available for retail purchase at the end of the night.

Citilites Unwind is a collection of eclectic events celebrating food, drink, and fun -- all designed to help you "unwind" from your daytime activities. Must be 21 or older to attend.
